OTTAWA – Brampton-based defence manufacturer Roshel has donated to the Canadian War Museum in Ottawa one of its mine-resistant armoured transport vehicles — the same kind being used by Ukraine in the war with Russia.

Jim Whitham, the museum’s director general, says the museum wanted to acquire a piece of military equipment that had a service history in Ukraine, given Canada’s history of supplying the war-torn nation with equipment.

The government of Ukraine has a no-scrap policy and did not want to turn over equipment used in the war, so the museum received a Senator MRAP armoured vehicle fresh off the assembly line and it’s already on display.

Witham says the museum could develop future exhibits focused on cutting-edge battlefield technology used in Ukraine, such as drones.

Roshel has supplied the Ukrainian military with more than 2,700 of its Senator vehicles since the Russian invasion in 2022.

Whitham says museums like his need to spend more time collecting contemporary artifacts to preserve history.
