TOWN CENTRE ASSAULT
A 58-year-old man is facing an assault charge after police say he admitted to punching another man at The Town Centre in Brandon.
Brandon Police Service cadets were patrolling the downtown area around 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday when they were informed a 25-year-old man had been punched in the head, police said in news release on Thursday.
Officers said the men were known to each other and that the younger man wished to press charges.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and was later released on an undertaking with a future court date of Jan. 7.
PALLIATIVE DEATH IN CUSTODY
A 47-year-old man who was in custody died in the palliative care unit at the Brandon Regional Health Centre, the province says.
Manitoba’s justice department reported the death in a news release on Thursday afternoon, saying the man died while under the supervision of correctional staff.
The province said it extends condolences to the family and won’t be releasing additional information for privacy reasons.
The death has been reported to the office of the chief medical examiner.
