Democrat Ben McAdams won election Wednesday to the U.S. House of Representatives representing Utah's 1st Congressional District, defeating Republican Riley Owen. The Democratic-leaning district was created last year after a Utah judge found the state’s old congressional boundaries unfairly favored Republicans in violation of an anti-gerrymandering law. McAdams previously represented the area for one term after he was elected as a moderate in 2018. He tacked to the left this year and won a crowded Democratic primary. The Associated Press declared McAdams the winner at 12:26 a.m. EST.
