Democrat Bob Harvie won election Wednesday to the U.S. House of Representatives representing Pennsylvania’s 1st Congressional District, defeating Republican incumbent Brian Fitzpatrick. Harvie, a county commissioner in the battleground district in Philadelphia’s suburbs, defeated the five-term incumbent. Harvie criticized Fitzpatrick for not holding public town halls or doing enough to stand up to President Donald Trump, especially on affordability issues like tariffs and gas prices. House Democrats had identified the race as a key seat to flip, and Harvie also benefited from Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro’s support. The Associated Press declared Harvie the winner at 12:37 a.m. EST.
