Democrat Tom Suozzi won election Wednesday to the U.S. House of Representatives representing New York’s 3rd Congressional District, defeating Republican Michael LiPetri. Suozzi was aggressively targeted by Republicans but won in a Long Island district that President Donald Trump carried by 4 points in 2024. A lawyer and accountant, Suozzi has served in Congress since 2016, with a two-year break when he ran unsuccessfully for governor in 2022. LiPetri is a lawyer and former state Assemblyman who prominently touted Trump’s endorsement. The Associated Press declared Suozzi the winner at 2:04 p.m. EST.
