BREACHING THE PEACE

A 53-year-old woman in a group home was arrested by the Brandon Police Service after she allegedly tried fighting residents and staff before running into the street naked.

Police were called to the group home on the 2200 block of Rosser Avenue on Tuesday around 1:25 p.m., police said in a news release on Wednesday.

Officers said the woman was intoxicated at the time.

She was charged with breaching the peace and was released from police custody once sober.

GROCERY THEFT

A man accused of stealing $150 worth of groceries was arrested for the theft when police later found him causing a disturbance on Tuesday morning.

Staff at a store on the 900 block of Victoria Avenue notified police of the theft in Brandon around 11:30 a.m.

Police located the suspect later that day in the 1200 block of Ninth Street, saying the 38-year-old matched the description provided in relation to the theft.

The man was charged with theft under $5,000 and was released from custody on an undertaking with a notice to appear in court on Jan. 11.

DOGWALKER ASSAULTED

A woman faces an assault charge after a dogwalker was “randomly” punched in downtown Brandon on Tuesday evening, police say.

A bystander reported the incident to police shortly after 7:30 p.m., describing how a woman was assaulted while walking her dog in the 800 block of Pacific Avenue.

A 32-year-old suspect left the area before officers arrived on scene, but she later contacted police, stating that she felt threatened by the dogwalker and punched her in self-defence.

Police said they met with the suspect, who was highly intoxicated at the time. She was subsequently arrested and charged with assault. She was released on an undertaking once sober with a scheduled court date for Jan. 14.

IMPAIRED ANTICS

An impaired driver had his vehicle towed and his licence suspended after an off-duty police officer saw he ran a red light and later urinated on his car.

The off-duty officer observed the 30-year-old driver fail to stop at a traffic control signal around 11 p.m. on Tuesday and followed him from 13th Street and Richmond Avenue to a residence on 20th Street, police said on Wednesday.

During this time, the off-duty officer saw the driver swerve, unnecessarily hit the brakes and flick on his turn signals when it wasn’t required, police said.

The off-duty officer then saw the man exit his vehicle outside the home, urinate on his car and drink a beverage before on-duty police officers arrived on scene and got the driver to blow into a breathalyzer.

Police said he failed two tests and was issued an Immediate Roadside Prohibition (IRP), resulting in his vehicle being impounded for 30 days and a licence suspension of 90 days.
