WAINWRIGHT – The federal budget is committing help for those affected by last month’s deadly fire on an Alberta military base.

It promises $25 million over two years to support the soldiers, their families and the community affected by the fire at CFB Wainwright, southeast of Edmonton.

It also commits $3 million for the Wainwright Military Family Resource Centre.

The government says it has a responsibility to support members of the military and the families who stand alongside them.

On Oct. 17, a fierce wind whipped a grass fire at the base and onto troops in a training exercise.

Four were killed and, of the 39 injured, 25 remain in hospital.
