Police have blocked off Charles Street between Church and Anderson avenues after a police cruiser rear-ended a white Pontiac after an apparent high-speed pursuit.
About a half-dozen police vehicles were on the scene.
Witnesses say three police vehicles were chasing the car down Machray Avenue when they turned onto Charles Street. The vehicle was first hit by the cruiser at the corner of Church Avenue and Charles Street, but continued down Charles when the crusier rear-ended the Pontiac and both vehicles came to a stop mid-way down the block.
The man was apparently pulled out through the driver’s side window after he refused to get out of the car, the witnesses added, and was taken into custody.
Tow trucks are now clearing the scene.
We will have more on this story as details are confirmed.
