Another COVID-19 outbreak has occurred at the Fairview Personal Care Home just five short months after the original one was reported in the Sun last November.
In a statement released by the provincial government, it said the 248-bed long-term care home has moved to the critical (red) level.
Spokespersons from Prairie Mountain Health and Manitoba Health directed the Sun to the province’s online outbreak dashboard for information on the situation at the care home.
When the Sun checked the site had not yet been updated to reflect the number of individuals infected with the COVID-19 virus at Fairview Personal Care Home. It is unknown how many residents or staff have been infected at this time.
It was reported by the Sun in November 2020 that the care home, which also offers an adult day program, had 21 COVID-19 positive residents and eight COVID-19 positive staff.
At the time, staff had raised concerns over the shortage of PPE through the Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union (MGEU) which represents healthcare workers.
A total of 135 new cases of COVID-19 were announced on Tuesday including five from Prairie Mountain Health.
Two deaths from the Winnipeg health region were reported on Tuesday, including one linked to the B.1.1.7. variant of the virus.
