Nine more people have died from COVID-19, the province announced Friday.

This follows 14 deaths reported Thursday, marking 23 fatalities from the virus over two days.

Nineteen of those deaths were reported in Winnipeg, two in Prairie Mountain Health, one in Northern Health, and one in Southern Health.

One case from the Prairie Mountain Health region was linked to an outbreak at Hillcrest Place in Brandon, according to the province. The total number of cases currently reported at Hillcrest Place, according to the province, is 42. Forty-one are linked to patients, the other is linked to a staff member and 39 cases are considered active. The province has not declared the Hillcrest Place outbreak to be over.

This brings the total fatalities from the virus in Manitoba to 1,543. The total fatalities from the virus in Prairie Mountain Health is 122.

There are 715 people hospitalized due to COVID, an increase from 711 patients Thursday, and 606 of these patients are experiencing active cases. which is up from 594 Thursday.

Intensive care numbers increased from 51 to 52 Friday and active cases increased from 44 to 46.

Manitoba added 898 new cases of COVID-19 Friday, bringing the active case count to 29,720. However, health officials have previously stated that not all cases are being recorded. Only results from supervised rapid antigen tests and PCR tests are being recorded and the actual number of cases is likely much higher.

The five-day test positivity rate for the province is 32.1 per cent.

In terms of vaccine coverage, 85.6 per cent of eligible Manitobans have received one dose of the vaccine, 79.3 per cent are considered fully vaccinated with two doses and 39.6 per cent have had three doses.
