The province announced four COVID-related deaths during the weekend alongside 353 new cases of the virus.
The dead include a man in his 70s from Prairie Mountain Health, a man in his 60s from Northern, a man in his 80s from the Winnipeg health region and a man in his 80s from the Winnipeg health region linked to the outbreak at the Health Sciences Centre GD4.
The weekend also found an outbreak declared at the Russell Health Centre.
New cases, minus three remove due to data correction, include:
• 223 in the Winnipeg health region
• 60 in Northern
• 26 in Southern Health-Santé Sud
• 30 in Prairie Mountain Health
• 14 in Interlake-Eastern.
There are currently 1,688 active cases of COVID-19 in Manitoba, of which 96 are in Prairie Mountain Health.
This is the greatest active case count in Prairie Mountain Health since early February.
In addition to the Russell Health Centre outbreak, current outbreaks in the health region also include Fairview Personal Care Home in Brandon, Boissevain Health Centre and Evergreen Place Personal Care Home in Boissevain and Boissevain School, which has shifted to remote learning.
The number of variants of concern continues to grow, with 709 found in Manitoba thus far, of which 249 are active and 458 are recovered cases. Two people have died.
The province’s overall case count of COVID-19 is currently 36,159, from which 33,512 have recovered and 959 people have died.
Prairie Mountain Health has seen 20 B.1.1.7 variants, one unspecified variant and one case of B.1.351.
There are currently 132 people in hospital as a result of COVID-19, including 33 in intensive care.
Of current hospitalizations, five are in Prairie Mountain Health, two of whom are in intensive care.
Of active cases of the virus in Prairie Mountain Health, 35 are in the Porcupine Mountain district, 20 are in Brandon, 12 are in Souris River and eight are in Turtle Mountain, with the balance spread through other districts.
The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 5.6 per cent provincially and 5.5 per cent in Winnipeg.
