A Brandon personal-care home has the third-highest number of COVID-19 cases of all personal-care homes in the province, according to the province’s COVID-19 dashboard.
Hillcrest Place Personal Care Home is reporting 36 confirmed cases. This includes one case among staff and 35 among residents. A news bulletin from the provincial government listed two deaths among the residents on Saturday attributed to the virus: a man in his 90s and a woman in her 80s.
Actionmarguerite St. Boniface in Winnipeg has the highest number of COVID cases, 107, followed by West Park Manor Personal Care Home, also in Winnipeg, with 38.
The province reported a woman in her 90s also died from a COVID outbreak at Rideau Park Personal Care Home.
The dashboard is also showing Fairview Personal Care Home in Brandon is managing a COVID outbreak, with seven cases on the fourth floor — two among staff and five among residents — and three cases on the fifth floor, all among staff.
An outbreak has been declared at the Westman Nursing Home in Virden, according to the news release, but case numbers were not immediately available.
A spokesman for Prairie Mountain Health stated in an email its Incident Command system works with Provincial Incident Command to constantly plan for patient, resident and client care during the pandemic.
"PMH expresses sincere condolences to those who have incurred losses of loved ones," the spokesman said.
Two hospitals in Prairie Mountain Health are also dealing with outbreaks, Brandon Regional Health Centre and Neepawa Health Centre have two cases each among patients, according to the dashboard. Reporting and posting outbreaks and the number of cases involved takes time, the spokesman said, as Manitoba Health has said in the previous comments it investigates cases, does contact tracing and has a longer verification process before posting online.
Across the province, there are now more than 700 people in hospital with COVID-19, according to the Manitoba government.
The dashboard listed 716 people in hospital with COVID-19 as of Monday, an increase of 52 hospitalizations since the last update on Friday. Of the current hospitalizations, the province said 650 people have active cases.
The number of people in the intensive care unit with COVID-19 now stands at 49 patients as of Monday and 44 have active infections, a decrease of one compared to the last update on Friday.
There have been 23 deaths reported since the last update on Friday. This brings the total number of COVID-19 deaths for Manitoba to 1,515.
The province reported 536 new cases on Monday. However, the bulletin said the reported cases only include those confirmed by a PCR test or a rapid test given by a health-care professional.
"Positive test results from rapid antigen tests, which people generally do at home, are not collected or reported," the province said. "As a result, these numbers are an under-reporting of COVID-19 in the community."
The five-day provincial test positivity rate is 33.3 per cent as of Monday.
The cases on Monday bring Manitoba’s total number of reported cases in the pandemic to 116,133, including 38,691 reported active cases and 75,927 reported recoveries.
