Tickets go on sale this Friday for the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Canada Cup Series, scheduled to be held at the Keystone Centre’s Westoba Place on May 23 and 24.
Bull riders hoping to hang on for eight seconds, will go one-on-one against their 1,500-pound animal-athlete opponents in the PBR Mazergroup Chute Out.
The Chute Out is the only PBR Canada Cup Series event that will be held in Manitoba during the 2025 season, according to PBR Canada.
Brandon will be the third stop among 10 in the 2025 lineup for the regular season.
The series tour set attendance records in nine cities in 2024, including a sold-out show in Brandon. Keeping that in mind, and for the first time this year, the competition will be held over two nights at Westoba Place, starting at 7 p.m., PBR Canada stated in a news release.
Twenty-five bull riders were part of the Cup Series when it last travelled to Brandon in May 2024. Weston Davidson from Strongfield, Sask., won the Cup Series before a sold-out crowd.
It was his first-ever victory in the Cup Series, winning him a $10,565 payday.
That win was part of a career high for Davidson, according to PBR Canada. He also finished 10 times in the top 10 against other bull riders, and when the season ended, he was ranked No. 7 in the race for the 2024 PBR Canada Championship.
Aaron Roy from Yellow Grass, Sask., is another past PBR Canada Cup Series event winner, with fans in Brandon. Roy won in 2023 and Blake Smith from Abbey, Sask., took the title in 2022.
The season opener will be held on Feb. 1 in Red Deer, Alta., with later stops in Alberta at Lethbridge, Grande Prairie and Medicine Hat; in Ontario at London and Ottawa; in Kelowna, B.C., and in Saskatoon, Sask.
All 10 competitions will be telecast on TSN, including the last stop in the series — the PBR Canada National Finals — which will be held in Edmonton on Nov. 14 and 15.
PBR was initially formed in the United States in 1992, with international tours being launched in 2006. Since 2015, it has been owned by WME-IMG, the company that also owns the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE).
The 2023 event held in May saw 25 bull riders competing for $25,000 at Westoba Place. Those with the top scores earned a second ride in the championship round. The winner was the rider with the highest combined score from the two rides.
