SNOW LAKE – A man helping clearing trees in Manitoba has died after one of the trees being cut tipped the wrong way and fell on him.

Mounties say the 50-year-old died in hospital after the accident Wednesday in Snow Lake, about 690 kilometres northwest of Winnipeg.

The man was part of a four-person crew clearing a landing site for helicopters when a tree being cut by another member fell on him.

He was flown by a co-worker in a helicopter to nearby Snow Lake.

The chopper landed in the parking lot of the health centre in front of Canada Day onlookers celebrating at a nearby beach.

Both RCMP and Manitoba Workplace Health and Safety are investigating.
