Hey there, time traveller!

Close to 600 students from 18 different schools in Grades 5 and 5 had the opportunity to learn all about agriculture and how it interacts with the world around them during the Agriculture in the Classroom’s Amazing Agriculture Adventure.
The Amazing Agriculture Adventure is a hands-on, interactive event geared to the science curriculum for those grades and was held in conjucntion with the Manitoba Summer Fair. Various activities are centred around Habitats and Communities, Rocks Minerals and Erosion, Maintaining a Healthy Body, Properties of Changes in Substances, Weather, Forces and Simple Machines. Students move through 18 interactive stations covering a variety of agriculture topics.
“This is a wonderful program that shows how agriculture is a part of our daily lives from food to the products that we use everyday,” said Diane Mauthe, project manager for Agriculture in the Classroom. When asked which was the most popular attraction, Mauthe replied “The sheep were a really big hit. The kids liked being able to see live animals, because it makes it much more real. They get to see the wool on the sheep, and then in several different products.”
The Amazing Agriculture Adventure has been taking place just prior to the Manitoba Summer Fair for several years, and it is a partnership that the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba is proud to be a part of.
“We’re very happy to support the good work done by Ag in the Classroom by providing a venue for their Amazing Agriculture Adventure. They help us to educate hundreds of youngsters each year about the importance of agriculture in our lives,” said Karen Oliver of the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba.
