Police say that they’ve had a man in custody for nearly a week, after arresting a suspect with two loaded handguns in his pants pockets. Upon searching his residence, they say they found more handguns, rifles, and other prohibited weaponry, like edged weapons and ammunition.

It took two search warrants over three days for the police, assisted by members of the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team, to fully search the suspect’s residence, which is in a south-end trailer park.

Police initially received a report on June 20 that a man had breached conditions of a peace bond. When they located him two days later in his yard, he was arrested for breaching that court order.

That’s when police say they they found the handguns in his pockets. Police allege they were not registered, and that the suspect did not have a license to possess them.

A 54-year-old Brandon man has been in custody since June 22, and is to appear in court this morning on charges of breach of recognizance and numerous firearms-related offences.

The Brandon Sun is in court today and will have a complete story in Tuesday’s paper.
