MICHAEL Ignatieff’s Liberal party stops in Winnipeg Thursday as part of their cross-Canada tour to lobby support to defeat the Harper government’s bid to kill the long-gun registry.
The Save the Gun Registry Tour features a roundtable discussion at the downtown Y at 301 Vaughn St. at 2 p.m.
Liberal Public Safety critic Mark Holland, Liberal Status of Women critic Anita Neville and members of Liberal women’s caucus are hosting the event.
The fate of the registry is being hotly debated across the country as MPs prepare to vote Sept. 22 on Manitoba Tory MP Candice Hoeppner’s private member’s bill, C-391, which would do away with it.
At the same time as the roundtable former Liberal MP Sheila Copps will be in the city to campaign Thursday and Friday with Liberal candidates Terry Duguid and Kevin Lamoureux.
