Though Hedley had previously conquered the hearts of local rock fans, the foursome returns to play for them again, with more material, tomorrow night.

"I remember that last time we played there. It was a lot of fun," drummer Chris Crippin said. "Sunday night will be a combination of all three of our records, plus we’ve got some new songs."

The band is at a stage where the musicians have polished their sound, but as a group, they have yet to get tired of their work.

Submitted Hedley, featuring lead singer Jacob (Jake) Hoggard, second from left, drummer Chris Crippin, left, guitarist Dave Rosin, right, and bassist Tom MacDonald, will perform at Westman Place at the Keystone Centre on Sunday. The concert, with performances from These Kids Wear Crowns and San Sebastian, gets underway at 7:30 p.m.

"This will be a real show, with set changes, props, lighting design and all sorts of stuff," he said. "There won’t be any incendiaries, so you’ll be able to hear us. We really have done the most we can with what we have."

Songwriting is an ongoing process, using lead singer Jacob (Jake) Hoggard’s ideas as a springboard. The singer is specific about what he’d like to sing and his colleagues respect his instincts.

"The songs come out in little bits and pieces in sound checks. We just keep them in our back pocket until something comes up, like an American company asks for new songs, and we send them a few of our ideas, we flesh them out — we Hedleyize them — book a studio, get a producer and an engineer, and hash it out that way," Crippin said. "We’re pretty busy. We’re always working."

The drummer promises an awesome show, stating that all four musicians — Hoggard, guitarist Dave Rosin, bassist Tom MacDonald and himself — are at the top of their game.

"We go on stage and we are as, if not more, excited to be there than the fans. That comes across," Crippin said. "We like playing music. We like playing our instruments and we like our songs and we like having people sing along. We like to take them out of their life, be it good or bad, and say: ‘This is fantasy land and let’s have some fun together.’"

The show featuring Hedley, along with guests These Kids Wear Crowns and San Sebastian, begins at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday in Westman Place at the Keystone Centre.
