Wedding bells were pealing on Saturday for songstress Amanda Stott.

The Brandon-born and -raised singer/songwriter has definitely grown up. While living in Nashville for the past few years, she met fellow musician Matt Young, and this past weekend, the two tied the knot.

"It was a perfect day. The weather was nice and it turned out wonderfully," said Amanda’s mother, Tiena Stott.

The wedding ceremony was held in McDiarmid Drive Alliance Church and was followed by a reception for 100 people at the family’s farm.

"She wanted just a small wedding, so this was good," Tiena said.

In the decade since the 28-year-old graduated from high school, Stott has worked on her music and her career.

After her first country-tinged self-titled CD, which garnered attention with its single "Black is Black" released in 2000, she signed on with EMI and polished her sound, targeting fans of adult contemporary music.

The ensuing recording was entitled "Chasing the Sky," and had a No. 1 hit single, "Paper Rain," while "Homeless Heart" and "She’ll Get Over It" were also released, but with less fanfare.

As well, during that same period, Amanda contributed to a compilation of songs featuring prominent female singers, like Sheryl Crow, Sarah McLachlan and Nelly Furtado.

Along the way, she has given performances here, with Tom Jackson during his Huron Carole and most recently, in his Singing for Supper Christmas concerts.

For one year, she toured as a featured singer with "Delirium," a Cirque du Soleil show.

In the last couple of years, she has been working at Mercy Ministries, a home for troubled girls and women between the ages of 13 and 29.

Amanda Stott will keep her maiden name for career purposes, but has taken Young’s name for all other situations.

"Matt is very nice. They’re very compatible," Tiena said. "We’re really happy for her."

The couple is currently honeymooning in Florida and will return to Nashville, where Stott will spend the winter months focusing on finishing and recording new songs.
