Cameron Rowat scored twice and set up another as the Southwest Cougars edged the Brandon Wheat Kings 4-3 in the Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League on Wednesday night in Souris.

“Again, we have been having slow starts and that has been the difference for us in a few games this year,” Brandon coach Ken Schneider said.

“Our third period was by far our best period … but the late power-play goal put us away.”

Sutton Olson scored the winner on the power play with 6:25 remaining and Hudson Morrison also scored for the Cougars (7-4-0-1), while Daylon Creasy notched a pair of assists. Carson Perreaux replied with two goals, while Tyson Holder scored once for the Wheat Kings (6-7-0-0). Brandon netminder Justin Holder made 24 saves, while Gage Murray stopped 20 shots for Southwest.
