Boxing Day retail hours in Brandon are all over the map after legislation restricting Sunday shopping hours was waived.

But the good news is, shoppers won’t have to get up too early to scout out the great deals.

In November, the provincial government announced that it would eliminate restrictions on Sunday retail hours, which typically limit store hours to noon to 6 p.m. But on the biggest shopping day of the year, retailers were calling for some leniency.

Brandon city council had the opportunity to amend the bylaw to its liking, but opted to leave the new legislation alone and let retailers have control of their hours.

Future Shop shoppers will have to be the earliest risers. The store is opening at 6 a.m. Most other retailers are opening between 7 a.m. and 9 a.m. and closing between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Other stores, like Kullberg’s Furniture, aren’t opening at all.

But those willing to study up on the varied hours and be in line in good time will find some good deals, including 50-inch plasma TV’s for $600, $85 Blu-ray players and $1,000 off a washer and dryer combination.

And it looks like the weather will co-operate with the diehards lining up early in the morning to be first in line. Saturday’s overnight forecast low is -13 C.
