Brandon city councillors continue to wade through the draft budget this afternoon.

While a number of individual requests from the mayor and council have added $900,000 to the budget document, the tentative spending has been tempered with a decision to cut the amount of cash funnelled into the protective services building reserve in half, from the proposed $920,000 to $500,000.

With a handful of department budgets still to be debated, the proposed municipal tax increase sits at just over five per cent.

Council are expected to put their decisions to a final vote late Friday afternoon.
