FP Canadian Newspapers Limited Partnership (FPLP) is pleased to announced the appointment of Eric Lawson as publisher of the Brandon Sun.

Lawson brings 28 years of newspaper experience to the Sun and served most recently as publisher and regional general manager for Brunswick News Inc., responsible for the Moncton Times and Transcript, the city’s daily newspaper, and a number of other publications in New Brunswick.

“Given all the opportunities there are in Brandon, we decided it was time to bring somebody in with some new experience and background,” said Ron Stern, chairman of FPLP. “We were very lucky to be able to hire somebody with a very extensive and successful history in papers and that’s why we hired Eric to lead our excellent team.”

Lawson’s career has spanned all aspects of newspaper publishing. He began his career as a reporter at the Halifax Chronicle-Herald and has held executive roles in advertising sales, market research, business development and insert distribution.

Lawson was publisher of the Fredericton Daily Gleaner from 2003 to 2007. He has recently completed his Executive MBA at the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario.

“The newspaper has a proud tradition of serving Brandon for 130 years. We have confidence Eric will build on this tradition and guide the newspaper to new growth and opportunities,” Stern said.

Stern also thanked outgoing publisher Ewan Pow for his contributions to the Brandon Sun over the past seven years.

Lawson will begin his duties immediately. He will be on his own for a few weeks, but will soon be joined by his wife, Linda, as they find a home and settle in Brandon.

The Brandon Sun publishes six days a week, serving the western Manitoba region with an average circulation of about 15,000 copies.
