All remnants of former Brandon West Communist Party candidate Lisa Gallagher will be removed from polling stations ahead of Tuesday’s provincial vote, say Elections Manitoba officials.
Gallagher dropped out of the provincial election race earlier this week, but due to the last-minute nature of the candidate slate change, Elections Manitoba initially indicated it would not be changing the ballots to reflect her decision to drop out.
However, Elections Manitoba officials confirmed to the Sun on Wednesday that they have found a company willing to do a last-minute print job of new ballots and are in the process of having a replacement ballot produced without Gallagher’s name on it.
Officials could not say whether the new ballots would be available at advance polling locations across Brandon this week.
However, they reiterated that any ballot cast for Gallagher during advance voting would be counted as rejected.
Advance polls are open from 8 a.m to 8 p.m until Saturday.
After the close of advance polls on Tuesday, Manitoba Elections had recorded that 33,700 people had cast their vote across the province ahead of the Oct.4 election.
This compares to an overall advance voting level of 42,775 people in the 2007 election.
