Hey there, time traveller!

A gift tree at Zellers brings together Christmas shoppers with Westman children in need, thanks to a partnership with Child and Family Services of Western Manitoba.

The tree, set up near the 18th Street entrance to Zellers at Shoppers Mall, is loaded with gift tags for children of all ages.

Shoppers are invited to pick a tag off the tree, buy an age- and gender-appropriate gift based on the information on the tag, and then take the purchased unwrapped gift with the tag to Zellers customer service. Zellers collects all the gifts and arranges delivery to CFS Western, which then distributes them accordingly and in time for Christmas.

“For over 10 years, Zellers has been doing this for us and generous shoppers have opened their wallets and hearts to help children,” said Susan Cable, the community education co-ordinator for CFS Western.

“This year, there are over 300 tags on the tree and we hope that shoppers will continue their tradition, even during these tough economic times … Buying a gift for a child who may otherwise not get one at all at Christmas is a perfect way to show what the holiday season is all about — giving to and sharing with others.”

The tree has been set up just in time for Friday’s “moonlight madness” sale. Zellers will be open until midnight that evening.
