Hey there, time traveller!

The Winnipeg Jets didn’t just have a run on season tickets this year.
Several Brandonites lined up outside their Autopac agencies for a shot at a set of special Winnipeg Jets licence plates, offered by Manitoba Public Insurance, with several outlets requiring extra staff and back orders to meet the demand.
Autopac agents in Brandon had 40 sets of Jets plates on hand for the first day of distribution. Guild Insurance, which split its allotment between its two locations, sold out of its 20 sets at its Victoria Avenue location, while as of noon, a handful remained at its Shoppers Mall outlet.
“You had to get down to nine plates before you could reorder and I was reordering at 9:05 this morning,” said Mandy Harvey, the auto department manager at Guild Insurance. “We were open at 8 a.m., and there was a lineup at 7:40 a.m., with 15 people in line. We had extra staff on, too. Normally we have one staff member on at 8 a.m., but today, we had five.”
The first edition drew a crowd because the first series has the letters WJ. There were 20,000 sets available provincewide, though it’s anticipated that there will be more sets made.
“Anyone in Manitoba that wants a Jets plate should be able to get one,” Harvey said.
Dick Agencies also had 40 plates, with a small amount remaining near the end of the day.
“The first series has WJ and four numbers, but the next series, I think, will have W and five digits,” said Val Hutsal, a manager at Dick Agencies. “The first 10,000 are going to be very popular because they are the only ones that will have WJ.”
While many who paid the required $70 surcharge put the plates on their car, it was also possible for registered owners of vehicles to give a pair of plates to another registered vehicle owner as a Christmas gift. Alternatively, people could get the plates to hang them in their rec room, provided they did a “plate replacement” and re-registered their vehicle with their old plates.
“We knew that after the Bomber plates sold out that this would be bigger,” Harvey said.
Those unable to get their plates today may still be able to show their Jets pride later this week. Some agencies have placed a second order that may arrive as early as Wednesday.
