Hey there, time traveller!

Just because the law will allow it doesn’t mean stores have to open extened hours on Sunday. And, for the first little while at least, the Brandon Shoppers Mall is planning to test the waters before throwing open their doors.
According to a memo from mall manager Kim James, shared with the Sun, the Shoppers Mall plans to be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays, starting Aug. 5.
That’s an hour earlier than their current Sunday opening, although doors will close at the same time.
It’s significantly shorter than the law allows. Provincial legislation was recently changed to allow stores to open at 9 a.m. on Sunday, and to stay open until 6 p.m. First reading of a Brandon bylaw to permit those hours was passed on July 9, and the city is expected to pass the bylaw at the next opportunity.
James says that the mall will be monitoring customer traffic to see if the hours need to be extended, and adds that hours will likely be lengthened during the Christmas shopping season.
The revised Sunday hours will also apply to general holidays.
Some individual stores may set their own hours. Although the Shoppers Mall doesn’t open until 9:30 a.m. from Monday to Friday, Safeway and Tim Hortons in the mall throw open their doors at 8 a.m.
