Hey there, time traveller!

Representatives from the Colombian Consulate are in Brandon this weekend, assisting people with passports and other important documents.
Willmar Lopez, originally from Colombia, who now runs Brandon Hispano Bakery, said this will make a world of difference to immigrants from Colombia.
“Before you had to fly to Toronto … to do the documentation, so now that the population is getting bigger and bigger, we sent requests for them to come and help us,” Lopez said. “Instead of every family spending $800 to go to Toronto.”
Lopez said people could also do it by mail, but it was expensive and time-consuming.
“You have to pay for the envelope coming back to you, sometimes it gets lost in the mail or you don’t do it the right way,” he said.
The Colombian Association of Manitoba let the consulate in Toronto know there was enough interest and need in Brandon to make the trip worthwhile.
This will be an opportunity for people to get their passports and citizenship cards up to date.
“If you fly to Colombia with the old passport, you cannot leave the country with that passport,” Lopez said. “You have to update.”
Between 40 and 80 families in Brandon are expected to take advantage of the service this weekend.
Three representatives from the Colombian Consulate will be at 1500 Richmond Ave. today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
