City council passed the 2013 budget on Saturday, after 13 hours of deliberations.

The $71.9 million operating budget represents a mill rate increase of 0.98 per cent. For the average homeowner with a property assessed at $200,000, that means an additional $16.70 in property taxes from last year.

Council made a net reduction to the proposed budget of $383,000 throughout the day. The day began with a proposed budget of $72.2 million, and a 1.99 per cent mill rate increase.

Big ticket items include $500,000 for infrastructure funding, a reduction of labour costs by $600,000 and a $400,000 reduction to operating reserves.
