Hey there, time traveller!

It will be a choral extravaganza Tuesday evening when the Augsburg College Choir from Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn., under the direction of conductor Peter Hendrickson, performs at First Presbyterian Church in Brandon.
Joining them on several pieces will be the Brandon Conservatory Chorale under the direction of Elizabeth Grant.
While honouring its roots in Scandinavian Lutheran choral tradition, the 65-voice a cappella Augsburg Choir has developed a generous and free choral sound, performing music from China to Colombia and South Africa to Russia.
This choral tradition encompasses not only the mission of Augsburg College but also the legacy of noted conductors such as Larry L. Fleming and Leland B. Sateren.
On Tuesday, they will perform a wide variety of music including rich, romantic music by Gretchaninoff; music by Canadian composers; American spirituals; international music from Peru, Venezuela, Cuba and Kenya; and F. Melius Christiansen’s beloved “Praise to the Lord.”
In addition to national tours throughout the United States, The Augsburg Choir has toured in Germany, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Hungary, the Czech Republic and most recently China in May 2010.
The choir has premiered works by Sven-Erik Bäck, Knut Nystedt, Stephen Paulus, Sverre Bergh, Steve Heitzeg, Carol Barnett, Egil Hovland, and Sigvald Tveit; and was honoured to perform before King Harald V and Queen Sonja of Norway on the occasion of their recent visit to Augsburg College in the fall of 2011 and before Crown Prince Haakon of Norway in 2005.
The choir hails from Augsburg College, set in a vibrant neighbourhood at the heart of the Twin Cities. The college offers more than 50 undergraduate majors and seven graduate degrees to more than 4,000 students of diverse backgrounds.
The trademark of an Augsburg education is its emphasis upon direct personal experience. Guided by the faith and values of the Lutheran church, Augsburg educates students to be informed citizens, thoughtful stewards, critical thinkers and responsible leaders.
Tuesday’s concert at First Presbyterian Church, 339 12th St., begins at 8 p.m. A freewill offering will be taken during the performance.
