The blood donor clinic in Brandon is highlighting 11 years of dedication from one of their volunteers as they mark National Volunteer Week from April 21–27.
“Our volunteers provide considerable value to the donation experience, which is recognized by many of our donors,” says Stephanie Smith, manager of Canadian Blood Services’ volunteer program.Nation-wide, some 17,000 volunteers dedicated 225,000 hours of their time in the last year to help support Canada’s blood system.
“Their combined efforts and commitment help us to deliver daily on our organization’s services that are so important to many Canadians.”

In Brandon, the organization held out one volunteer as an example of the dedication shown.
This year marks Angela Davis’ 11th anniversary as volunteer. At least once a month — sometimes twice —she dedicates a Saturday to serving up tasty treats to the donors after they have given blood. In 2002, Davis suffered a blood clot and was not able to give blood for a period of time, so volunteering became her way of helping.
Today, Davis is able to give blood again but, because she says that volunteering has become an important part of her life, she continues to donate her time as well.
The blood donor clinic in Brandon is located just off of the parkade in the Town Centre, and is generally open Wednesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
