Brandon-Souris Liberals have chosen Rolf Dinsdale to run for the party in a federal byelection later this fall.
Dinsdale defeated Killarney-Turtle Mountain Mayor Rick Pauls, a former Conservative, Wednesday.
Dinsdale recently moved back from Toronto to Brandon, where his family history runs deep. His father, Walter Dinsdale, was the area’s Progressive Conservative member of Parliament for 32 years. His grandfather, George Dinsdale, was a Brandon mayor and legislature member.
The federal byelection is to replace former Conservative MP Merv Tweed, who resigned earlier this year to become the president of Omnitrax Canada.
Arthur-Virden MLA Larry Maguire is the acclaimed candidate for the federal Conservatives. Cory Szczepanski will represent the NDP. Boissevain’s David Neufeld will represent the Green Party.
