A herd of zombies lumbered through Brandon, moaning and swiping at people passing by.

The fourth annual Zombie Walk on Saturday evening included more than 100 zombies and raised more than $300 for the Brandon Humane Society.

“Kids are either terrified or they want to play along,” said Gillian Perlette, who has been involved with the walk for three years. “Everybody has a good time.”

From slow, grotesque zombies similar to those in “The Walking Dead” television series, to the more cartoonish undead from the game “Plants Versus Zombies,” the types of zombies varied depending on the generation.

“It all depends on what movie or storyline you like,” said an undead Cameron Chappell.

While the crowd slowly walked beside the city’s streets, traffic slowed down as drivers may have taken a second look at the huge line of flesh-eating biters.

And since the walk was a charity event for the city’s humane society, there were also five ghoulish dogs including seven-year-old Quest that had an eye hanging out of her socket. Since she already lost the eye, Quest had no problem wearing the prosthetic.

The chilly weather did cull the herd’s numbers a bit compared to past years, when between 150 and 200 zombies took part in the walk.
