Vincent Massey High School is tickled pink to present “Legally Blonde: The Musical” this week at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium.

Based on the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture and novel by Amanda Brown, the stage adaptation was written by Heather Hach, with music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin.

The hysterical and uplifting musical features some of Vincent Massey’s most talented teenagers, including Kristen Nerbas (Elle), Davis Placatka (Emmett), Logan Cathcart (Warner), Katie MacDonald (Paulette), Victoria Rust (Vivianne) and Jordyn Kehler (Whitney) — gifted singers fresh off an intense nine-concerts-in-four-days tour with the Western Manitoba Youth Choir.

Submitted Members of the cast of "Legally Blonde: The Musical" go through their paces during rehearsal for Vincent Massey High School's major production, which runs Thursday through Saturday, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium.

However, “Legally Blonde” is not only a showcase for Massey’s musical talent, but it highlights the artistic and the athletic as well. It will feature some of Brandon’s award-winning dancers, who come from all three of the city’s studios: Brandon School of Dance, Dance Images and Steppin’ Time.

Director Nancy Pitcairn is delighted with this year’s cast and production, and is looking forward to showing Brandon audiences what Vincent Massey has been working on since the spring.

“It is really exciting to work on a show that is relatively new to the world of musical theatre, and new to Brandon audiences,” she said. “The musical has all the charm of the Reese Witherspoon movie, but includes upbeat, invigorating, fun music.

“Perhaps the most fun in doing this musical has been in the redemptive message not to judge a book by its cover, that when we overcome our preconceived ideas and stereotypes, we can achieve our true potential.”

Choreographer Linda Kearns was excited to find out Massey was putting on “Legally Blonde: The Musical.”

“It is a great musical production in which all of our favourite characters — Elle, Kyle the UPS Man, Paulette and the fun-loving and ditzy Greek Chorus — take centre stage,” she said.

“With great songs and big production dance numbers such as ‘OMG’ and ‘What You Want,’ I could hardly wait to choreograph it.”

So, come watch the talented Vincent Massey cast and crew bring “Legally Blonde: The Musical” to life with a perfect blend of heart and humour.

Showtimes are Thursday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the WMCA box office or online at wmca.ca.

Please note that this production does have a PG13 rating.
