The Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs has announced plans to develop its fourth casino in Thompson.
No date or details were released in an announcement today in Thompson other than expectations that the development will move quickly.
AMC Grand Chief Derek Nepinak said there has been strong support from the city of Thompson and its mayor Tim Johnson as well as from the province.
The size of the new Thompson casino development is being characterized as similar to that of the Aseneskak Casino in The Pas and the Shark Club Gaming Centre in downtown Winnipeg.
It is believed that a casino development in Thompson will create about 140 jobs as well as spur some economic development activity in the northern Manitoba city.
The AMC is looking forward to the opening of its third casino, Sand Hills Casino east of Brandon, by the end of May this year.
The South Beach Casino and Resort is the other Manitoba First Nations casino. It is located on the Brokenhead Ojibway First Nation at Scanterbury.
