Progressive Conservative MLA for Agassiz Stu Briese will not put his name on the ballot in the next provincial election.
“I would like to thank my family, friends, constituents and colleagues for all of their support and advice during my time as an MLA. It has been a wonderful experience,” Briese, 68, said in a statement. “I had the advantage of a significant lead time between my nomination and a provincial election, and I think it is important to give the next PC candidate for Agassiz the same courtesy.”
Briese, an MLA for seven years, will continue to serve as the MLA for Agassiz until the next provincial election is called.
He was first elected in 2007 as the MLA for Ste. Rose, and was re-elected in 2011 as the MLA for Agassiz. He served 20 years in municipal politics, including 12 years on the boards of the Union of Manitoba Municipalities and the Association of Manitoban Municipalities (AMM). This included six years as the vice-president and president of the AMM, and three years as a director of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
