Jardine, 31, was found dead in a second-floor suite at the housing co-op for the disabled.

Three men have been charged with manslaughter in his death.

“We wanted to do something to honour him because he lived here for four years,” Clubhouse manager Sheryl Hayne-Cavers said.

Rick and Karen Chrest held the ribbon as Jardine’s mother, Barb, cut it.

Outside, his father, Dan, spoke about his son, who suffered from mental illness, as a tree was planted in his name in the front yard.
