Brandon-Souris Member of Parliament Larry Maguire was in lockdown along with much of downtown Ottawa following shootings on Parliament Hill.

The Conservatives were attending a caucus meeting on the hill when shots were heard inside the Parliament buildings on Wednesday morning. The gunman was later killed.

Just prior, the assailant had opened fire at the National War Memorial, a short distance away, killing a reservist who was on ceremonial guard duty.

Maguire’s staff confirmed to the Sun he was safe. However, he and several others were unable to be reached by phone Wednesday.

Brandon’s constituency office was closed yesterday, as were all MPs’ constituency offices across the country.

Meanwhile, the federal government also had several Canadian Forces bases on lockdown with heightened security; however, there is no change to the security status at CFB Shilo.
