Brandon University has officially unveiled what it’s referring to as a new, modernized logo.
The logo, which incorporates BU’s ceremonial coat of arms, simplified graphical elements and text, was introduced during BU’s homecoming celebrations this past weekend.
“The logo was developed out of extensive consultation across the university community and we are pleased with the feedback,” BU president Gervan Fearon said in a release Wednesday. “We are confident that our alumni and members of the BU community will find it inspiring.”
The last time BU’s visual standards and logo were slightly updated was in 1999 and the most recent changes involved consultations with students, alumni, faculty and staff who reviewed designs based on more than 800 surveys.
“The update of any brand should be done with care. However, the relationship people have with their university can run particularly deep,” said Alex Beshara, BU communications officer and project lead. “The collective wisdom of our community, talent of our contracted designer and vision of our institution led us to an outstanding result.
“It demonstrates that we’re looking ahead while remaining cognizant of our rich heritage.”
BU Apostles alumni group chair Michael Czuboka said via email the new logo is only meaningful “if it signifies a positive change of direction by BU.”
BU’s new visual identity will be rolled out to digital and print marketing outlets over the course of the academic year.
Assiniboine Community College last updated its logo in May 2011 and ACC has no immediate plans to make any major changes, according to an ACC spokesperson.
However, the college is in the process of redeveloping its website with hopes of launching it in early 2015.
