Hey there, time traveller!

Christmas is still eight weeks away, but one local charity is already gearing up for the festive season.
Brandon-Westman Christmas Cheer Registry will be opening its office Nov. 4, and has put out a call for volunteers.
“We’re always looking for volunteers for delivery of hampers, packing hampers, moving hampers and heavy boxes around —if you can lift, we can use you,” said office manager Sandra Wray.

The office, located at 710 Rosser Ave., will be open from 1 p.m.-4 p.m. as of Nov. 4 and will take monetary donations, as well as new children’s books and unwrapped toys.
After Nov. 12, the office will be open 1 p.m-5 p.m. Starting Dec. 1, the office hours are 9 a.m.-12 p.m. and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Closer to Christmas, the registry will be looking for more food donations.
Last year, roughly 1,300 Christmas hampers were delivered to less fortunate families, couples and individuals.
The majority were packed through the Christmas Cheer office, while about 300 hampers were provided by local businesses, churches and families through the Salvation Army’s adopt-a-family program.
The total number of children who received gifts through Christmas Cheer last year was 1,192.
More than 200 hams, 196 chickens, 470 fryer chickens, 72 turkeys and 479 Christmas cakes were given out in last year’s hampers.
Interested volunteers should call 204-727-2559 to join the cause.
This will mark Wray’s 10th year as a Christmas Cheer volunteer and she says it’s the spirit of the season that keeps her coming back.
“What keeps me involved is the people that I’m working with down there,” she said. “I really do love them, they’re good people. Their hearts and minds and souls are definitely in the right place.”
Secondly, Wray said she likes the idea of families, individuals and couples, who might need some extra help, being able to celebrate Christmas in their homes.
“It’s our pleasure to make a hamper for them, there’s no shame in it, it’s just something that we are able to do and honoured to do to help people,” she said.
