KRASNOYARSK, Siberia — After months of manufacturing and construction, the largest frameless steel building in the world hosted its first soccer game on Nov. 8 in Siberia.

Manufactured by Behlen Industries LP of Brandon, the structure holds a FIFA certified, international-sized soccer field and bleachers.

“At Behlen, our unique building system made this structure possible,” said Behlen vice-president and general manager Sean Lepper. “We made history with this sports facility, and it is incredibly rewarding to see our vision standing tall and ready to be used by eager soccer teams.”

Submitted The largest frameless steel building in the world, manufactured by Brandon’s Behlen Industries, hosted its first soccer game Saturday in Siberia.

Saturday’s game was attended by more than 3,000 people, including the president of the Football National League, Igor Efremov. Players and spectators alike praised the new facility.

The recently opened sports facility has clear spans 313 feet wide, without any columns to obstruct views. The whole structure measures 313 feet wide, 75 feet tall and 400 feet long. Constructed with an engineered panel system, Behlen has eliminated the need for structural steel.

The building’s convex-style roof design helps provide the necessary rigidity while saving on time, labour and materials.

The building components were manufactured in Brandon, then transported and erected in Krasnoyarsk, Siberia.

Founded in 1969, Behlen has grown to be the largest manufacturer of steel building systems in Canada.

“Behlen buildings are perfect for large, obstacle-free interior spaces. They are a favourite for arenas, warehouses, airplane hangars and more,” said Lepper. “Our designs are flexible and our building system creates very little construction waste.”
