Tickets to Assiniboine Community College’s Grey Owl restaurant were sold out by noon today and callers looking to score tables will now go to a waitlist.

Some spent the morning with the reservation hotline on speed dial, flooding the college’s phoneline — some calling upwards of 500 times and still not getting through.

The restaurant, located in a Victorian dining hall inside the culinary arts institute at ACC’s North Hill campus, has room for 65 people per night from Jan. 19 to Feb. 13.

With optional seatings times of 5:45 p.m., 6:15 p.m., 6:45 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. per evening, that gave 1,300 lucky patrons the opportunity for a first-class dining experience.

About 50 students are involved with this year’s event and courses throughout the year prepare them for putting on special events such as Grey Owl.

This year’s menu will offer up many popular staples and old favourites from years past, along with some new student creations sprinkled in.

Menu highlights so far include pan-seared scallops and tiger prawns, rack of lamb, strip loin steak and new this year is a plate of Manitoba beef ribs.

Some menu items are also grown inside ACC’s greenhouse.

This annual fine-dining experience is anticipated by the Brandon community each year and is known to sell out quickly.
