After weeks of penny-saving at the pumps, gas prices in Brandon are back on the rise, ranging from 89.9 cents per litre to 98.8 this morning.

The average price for gas in Manitoba, according to price-tracking website Gasbuddy.com, is 92.4 cents per litre — more than a six-cent jump from yesterday.

But the province is still below the national average today at 98.1 cents.

Gasbuddy senior petroleum analyst Dan McTeague said an increase of at least two to three cents is coming overnight across the country.

“It looks like the double whammy of both the decrease in value of the Canadian dollar and the increase in global commodity prices has led to a rather unfortunate scenario for consumers who have been enjoying record low prices,” he said in an interview with the Canadian Press.

But to put it in perspective, a litre of regular gasoline averaged $1.24 a year ago in Canada.

In Calgary, gas prices have risen 7.5 cents over the past week. In Toronto, they’re up 4.4 cents and Vancouver has seen a 6.7 cent increase.
