Police are investigating after a body was found by a fisherman beneath the David Thompson Bridge at around 10 a.m. on Wednesday.

"We did find a body in the (Assiniboine) River," Brandon Police Service Sgt. Kevin McLean said. "It was the body of a male."

Identification is expected to take a few days.

Foul play hasn’t been ruled out, but it’s not suspected during the early stages of the investigation.

The body will go to Winnipeg for an autopsy.

The bridge spans the Assiniboine River, just south of the Corral Centre. Our reporter Charles Tweed is on scene. More details to come.
