For more than a century, Brockie Donovan Funeral and Cremation Services has served Brandon and area.

Surrounded by staff, friends and dignitaries yesterday, owners Wade and Kelly Lumbard celebrated by unveiling a centennial anniversary plaque at their downtown Brandon location.

Founded in 1915 by George Brockie, Brockie Donovan has become a staple of the downtown business community.

In 1956, Brockie’s son-in-law Jack Donovan took over the business, running it until 1975 when he sold it to Jack Lumbard, who ran it for two decades.

Lumbard’s son Todd entered the business in 1995, while Wade came into the fold in 2003.

“Brockie has always been family-owned and has always operated with the best interests of the community in mind,” Wade said, standing in front of the chapel on Eighth Street.

“We have always and will always believe we have an obligation to give back to the community that has meant so much to us.”

The family also announced the donation of $50,000 toward a new fund that will be managed by the Brandon Area Community Foundation.

“The Brockie Donovan Senior Care Legacy Fund will support seniors in our community through programs that focus on their issues and well-being,” Kelly said, adding that the business will continue to donate to the fund in the future.

Mayor Rick Chrest said the Brockie, Donovan and Lumbard families have been invaluable to the growth of the city.

“One hundred years of business is an unbelievable milestone,” Chrest said. “In my view certainly, a very long, proud and professional tradition of service, commitment and dedication to this community and to your clients.”
