Hey there, time traveller!

Fans of the 1980s are in for a “gouda time” when video tribute band Dangerous Cheese hits the stage at The 40 later this month.
The Regina-based band has been playing together for five years and vocalist Zubazz, says their live show is something to behold.
“Our goal is to keep people dancing from the first song, right through the end of the evening,” he said over the phone.
The band tries to cover all the major genres of the decade by playing everything from Wham! to Michael Jackson to Poison.
Dangerous Cheese, made up of Zubazz, Kevin Kyle (bass), Brad Evanochko (guitar) and Paul Bobetsis (drums), also harnesses the visuals of the ’80s by dressing up in costumes and showing music videos during their live performances.
“(Videos are) the thing that makes us stand out … and it’s all in sync with the band,” Zubazz said.
Dangerous Cheese, whose name is a nod to the extreme cheesinesss the ’80s are known for, came to be when Kyle and Zubazz serendipitously approached each other about starting a band.
Prior to the band, Zubazz kicked off his music career in Regina’s karaoke scene — which is, perhaps, not the most surprising route for a tribute artist.
“This is my first real band but I’ve been kind of the Karaoke King of Regina for many years,” Zubazz said, adding that he gained a following when he started bringing his own music to karaoke clubs since the hosts never seemed to have enough.
Dangerous Cheese plays in Brandon Dec. 18 and 19 and the shows mark the band’s first foray into Manitoba.
“We’ve been growing as a band and lately we decided lets just go for explosive growth, so right now we’re working on getting into the Manitoba market,” Zubazz said.
The band has opened up for the likes of Big Sugar and next year, they hope to play Freemont Street in Las Vegas and do a mini-American tour.
In the meantime, the band is encouraging its Brandon audience to dress up in their ’80s best as there will be lots of photo ops with the band between sets.
“We’re mozza fun,” Zubazz said.
