A 24-year-old Brandon man is in police custody following a shooting on Saturday night.
At approximately 5:40 p.m., Brandon police were called to the 300 block of 10th Street after reports of multiple shots fired in the area.
Staff Sgt. Larry Yanick said when police initially arrived at the scene that everyone had vacated the area.
However, a short time later, police received a call from the hospital after a man was admitted with a gunshot wound to his chest.
A second caller led police to the Central United Church in the 300 block of Eighth Street where a man was hiding out.
Police apprehended the man, who they believe is responsible for the shooting.
“It’s still the early stages of the investigation and at this point we don’t have a motive,” Yanick said.
The weapon, which is believed to be a handgun, has not been recovered, however, police were combing the area late Saturday night with a police dog.
Yanick said the 38-year-old Brandon victim was conscious and speaking at the hospital. He is expected to undergo a number of medical tests and procedures.
The incident isn’t related to the shooting one week ago, according to Yanick.
