Zombies took over the streets of Brandon Saturday afternoon in search of braaaaaiiinnnnsss — and to raise some money for a good cause.
The seventh annual Brandon Zombie Walk had the largest turnout yet, with 107 zombies and nine dogs showing off their best zombie moves and raising money for the Brandon Humane Society.
“The costumes this year are so out of this world … I don’t know how they come up with these,” said organizer Gillian Perlette. “More and more people are realizing they can take their kids or their dogs, so it’s growing.”
This is Perlette’s second year organizing the walk, but her passion for everything zombie-related, in addition to her love of makeup, makes organizing the walk a no-brainer.
“I was just a spectator the first year and I thought, ‘I have to do this,’ and my friend and me have been doing it every year,” Perlette said. “Now that I’ve taken over (organizing the event), I realize it’s quite a big task, but it’s so worth it,”
Brandon’s zombies appreciate it, too.
There was a zombie bride in attendance as well as Marie Antoinette, back from the dead. A zombie girl scout carried a bloodied box of Girl Guide cookies, shuffling behind a zombie boy scout. Even some of the dogs dressed to impress.
“I love everything Halloween,” said zombie Rob Harwood, readjusting the fake guts spilling out of his stomach. “Every excuse to get dressed up, I’ll take it.”
Harwood said there isn’t a method to his madness when it comes to his zombie makeup, and he has tried a variety of different styles.
“I just start from scratch … I sat down at 11 a.m. and just sort of started working at and got what you see here today,” Harwood said.
