Focused on helping middle-market earners of between $25,000 and $50,000 per year manage their finances, World Financial Group plans on opening a Brandon office some time this summer.

They’ve already had six licensed agents operating in Brandon to test market conditions during the past few months; an effort local business partner Darren Darvill labelled as successful on Friday.

During the day, he scoped out potential office sites alongside other partners and helped host an evening meeting with potential agents alongside World Financial Group representatives from Winnipeg.

While he said that they plan on easing into the local marketplace, he added; “We could have 50 licensed agents in Brandon and not lose any steam.”

World Financial Group tackles the middle-market, which Darvill said makes up the majority of those in Brandon.

“We specifically try to target financial education first, and what we do is try to teach people how to manage their debts to get out of debt and how to stay out of debt,” he said. “Literally everybody could use what we have to offer.”

Born and raised in Brandon, Darvill said that he grew up in a single parent household, wherein his mother worked 16-hour days to make ends meet for her two children.

He’d previously worked as a partner at Premier Auto Spa in Brandon until that business shut down, which he said put him into tight financial constraints.

It’s a relatable problem for one to have, and one that has solutions that should be tapped into before they become a greater problem down the line, Darvill said.

“Most people don’t realize that if they don’t have a retirement plan before they’re 30 years old, they’re going to have a very difficult time retiring,” he said, adding that you’re seeing “a lot more people retiring and working at Walmart part-time.”

An online search for World Financial Group reviews revealed a number of negative experiences, including many that call to question its multi-level marketing organizational structure as resembling a pyramid.

However, the Better Business Bureau has given the company an A+ rating and does not report having received any complaints during the last 36 months.
