The months-long renovation project at Brandon’s Rona is nearly complete, with the building supplies store’s grand reopening set for next week.

The renewed store’s centrepiece is its 3,000-square-foot design centre, which serves both Rona and adjoining J&G Homes offices.

It’s a drastic improvement from what they had before, J&G Homes’ vice-president of marketing, Nycolle Adams, said while touring the new site earlier this week.

“We had barely a kitchen display, so our customers were coming in and we only had a five-foot space of cabinet doors,” she said, adding that they needed more displays to help people better visualize what products would look like in real-life scenarios.

Kitchens, bathrooms and other spaces fill the 3,000 feet alongside various samples and demonstrative displays that show what home renovation products and items can do.

Designers Elana Solomon and Melody Culanag designed the space, which is being advertised as the largest of its kind in Westman.

One of the space’s kitchens — a “modern contemporary” space — incorporates a fully automative setup, where everything from turning on the lights to opening and closing the blinds can be done via a wall unit or a mobile device such as an iPad.

Everything in the space is functional, except for the plumbing.

The large-scale displays will be replaced every two years or so to keep up with the trends.

While the design centre offers the new space’s centrepiece, the balance of the store has also been retooled, including its northern entrance shifting to the west side of the building.

It’s like a new store altogether, Adams said.

Rona is hosting a two-day grand reopening event beginning on Aug. 31, during which they’re offering sales and a free five-gallon bucket to the first 50 customers, in which everything that fits will be 20 per cent off.
